Canby Asparagus Farm Casa de Tamales in Milwaukie, Oregon, is a vibrant gem for lovers of authentic Mexican and Latin American cuisine, with a special focus on tamales that seduce the palate with rich tradition and inventive flavors. Nestled at 10605 SE Main St, this charming tamale shop and restaurant delivers not just meals, but a genuine culinary experience rooted in passion and heritage.
The heart of their menu lies in the incredible variety of tamales—each one a carefully crafted delight. From the hearty Nacatamal Platter to the uniquely adventurous Spinach and Mushrooms Tamale sautéed in olive oil and topped with jack cheese, or the exotic Greek Tamale boasting goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, and spinach, customers are invited into a world of bold, flavorful combinations. Vegetarian diners will especially appreciate standout options like the Vegetarian Beef Tamale smothered in red sauce and the sweet, comforting Green Corn Tamale made with Mexican corn and green chile.
Beyond tamales, the menu shines with mouthwatering choices such as the Tamale Burrito, the fragrant Tortilla Soup, and the indulgent Potato Mole Served with Eggs and Black Beans. The Deep Fried Asparagus is a must-try, showcasing the farm-fresh asparagus with a perfect crunch and subtle smoky notes. Complement these dishes with fresh housemade sides like Guacamole, zesty Mango Pico de Gallo, and perfectly seasoned Black Beans, adding depth and balance to every bite.
Refresh your palate with their traditional Horchata, a creamy, cinnamon-hinted Mexican rice water that feels like a comforting, tropical breeze in every sip. For those seeking a lively atmosphere, their “very expensive margaritas” rimmed with chili salt provide both heat and sweet relief, embodying the spirited, fun vibe owners like Charlie so warmly cultivate.
Dining here is an intimate experience—indoors, you’ll find a cozy, casual setting with limited seating, while a few outdoor tables let you soak in the neighborhood feel. The scene buzzes with Charlie’s gruff, yet endearing personality, and his passion shines through in the food and hospitality. Guests appreciate the slow-cooked care evident in every dish, inviting patience and a relaxed mindset to savor the moment. As one loyal customer, Matt, puts it, this is “a hidden treasure” for those who want more than just a quick meal—it’s an edible celebration full of heart and flavor.
Whether you’re drawn by their ever-changing weekly specials—like lamb wrapped in banana leaves at the Beaverton Farmer’s Market—or the rich, sizable portions of their burritos and tamales, Canby Asparagus Farm Casa de Tamales promises an authentic taste journey that leaves your mouth happy and cravings fulfilled.
Highly recommended for adventurous foodies and lovers of genuine Mexican culinary craft, this spot is a rare find where each bite tells a story and every dish invites you to linger just a little longer.

Charlie is a gruff adorable owner who will make your mouth happy w/ tamales of every kind. Be patient, find a seat and he will be w/you asap. There is a yellow menu for take out(frozen tamales) or a hot meal on the two regular menus. Frozen tamales come in 4 packs and are individually large. And the margaritas come w/ chili salt on the rim. Great atmosphere and fun to watch Charlie interact w/other customers. Love this place, will return soon!
We loved service of the owner. The presentation of the food wasn't great but I do know he had a new cook. The steak burrito I had was was big and very flavorful. The Tortilla soup was a bit on the spicy side for my granddaughter. The grilled asparagus and shrimp dish was really good but a little heavy on the Chipotle for my wife. If we are by that way again I will stop by for another meal.
Amazing! Food was delicious, Service was spectacular. A little spendy. Tiny seating area inside and a handful of tables outside. Worth a stop for sure.
This hidden treasure is a place you don’t need to go to if you’re in a hurry, or want your traditional sit down restaurant. - AMAZING TAMALES - AMAZING LIMEADE, and their Horchata is out of this world with flavor that will take you to a tropical paradise. - Asparagus that’s greener than any you’ve seen before with a slight crunch when you bite down that’s full of flavor. - Their salsa is flavorful, fresh, and homemade. - Rice & Beans are exquisite The food was above average, it was authentic, very delicious. Don’t let their prices differ you, as when you get your plate get ready for your taste buds to be opened up and take you for a wild ride. I have read the negative reviews, and came to the conclusion that everyone is entitled to they’re own opinion. However, don’t let those scare you away as most thing of a restaurant as a Olive Garden and not a traditional family owned establishment that’s satisfied with their own ways.
Thanks for visiting the Beaverton Farmer's Market week in and out. I appreciate that the main operator remembers customers names (probably many orders too) and they seem to be doing the best they can between a combination of family and paid employees. There's always a weekly special tamale or two. This week was lamb and wrapped in banana leaf.
